Limassol at a Glance
4 min readLimassol is a coastal city on the south coast of Cyprus, roughly halfway between the island's two international airports at Larnaca and Paphos. This short guide describes what a visitor or a newcomer will find there.
The seafront and the old town
The seafront promenade, known as the Molos, runs along the sea near the old town and is one of the city's favourite places for a walk. Close by, the old town is centred on the medieval Limassol Castle, and its narrow streets are lined with cafés, shops and restaurants.
The marina and the port
The Limassol Marina, next to the old town, combines a harbour for yachts with restaurants and shops. The city is also home to one of the island's principal commercial ports, which gives Limassol a working, international character alongside its holiday side.
Beyond the city
A short drive away are important archaeological sites, including ancient Amathus, on the coast east of the city, and ancient Kourion, to the west. Kolossi Castle, a medieval fortress, stands just outside Limassol. To the north, the foothills of the Troodos mountains are known for their villages and for the production of wine.
Living and working in Limassol
Limassol has an international character: it hosts many companies, a large expatriate community and a lively food and cultural scene. Its mild winters and long summers make life outdoors possible for much of the year.
